When trying to move a card between boards, you might see an error like:

“Email creator(s) are not members of the destination board.”

This behavior is intentional and designed to protect your team’s privacy. Here’s how it works and why this rule exists.

? Why the Restriction?

In our platform, when an email is added to a card, the entire thread is attached—including participants, content, and any sensitive information. If you move that card to another board, that information travels with it.

To prevent unintentional sharing, we’ve introduced a hard rule:

A card can only be moved to another board if both boards have the same set of members.

✅ Example: When It Works

Let’s say your Finance team has two boards:

  • Accounts Receivable

  • Accounts Payable

If both boards have the exact same members, you can freely move cards between them. Everyone on both boards has access to the same information, so no privacy risk is introduced.

❌ Example: When It Doesn’t Work

If even one member differs between the two boards—say, a contractor is on one but not the other—you won’t be able to move the card. That’s because someone might gain access to an email thread or document they weren’t originally meant to see.

?️ Can This Be Overridden?

Not yet—but we’re working on it.

We plan to introduce a board-level setting that allows admins to override this restriction, taking on the responsibility of managing any privacy risks. Once enabled, this will give teams more flexibility when moving items between boards with different members.
